[Countdown to American Dissonance Fest] The Bands: Part 1

July 31, 2019

American Dissonance Fest is less than a month away!

For those who don't know, NJWeedmans Joint is a restaurant and “420-friendly sanctuary” located across from Trenton’s City Hall. A marijuana legalization advocate and political activist, Edward Forchion, aka “NJWeedman”, has been under legal scrutiny from the state of New Jersey over the past decade. This unfortunately has caused financial strain on both Forchion’s personal and business life. His story and activism have been featured on VICE, NJ.com, as well as many others.

Our goal is to raise money for the Joint because we truly believe that it's a place where artists, musicians, activists alike can gather and share ideas.

Leading up to the Festival, we will be spotlighting some of the talent that will be featured on August 24!

SAVAN DEPAUL (Philadelphia, Rap/ Electronica)

Forever the cosmic enthusiast, Savan DePaul prides himself on making music that challenges/subverts the notions of his contemporaries. Favoring the abstract and the surreal, DePaul not only operates as a rapper but also as a producer, poet, and visual artist. He’s shown a penchant for creating musical projects that more closely resemble alien incantations than your average pop or rap banger. DePaul uses his eclectic tastes in music and a wide range of influences to fuse a central hip hop sound with ambient, trip hop, dub, trance, grime, reggae, Afrobeat, traditional Middle Eastern and Chinese music, wonky, drum & bass, glitch pop, dream pop, and psychedelica. Utilizing this lush instrumentation and bringing a distinct vibe to rap has become one of DePaul’s edicts.

Club 27 (New Jersey, Alternative/Indie Pop)

Club 27 is an up and coming indie-pop band from Florence, NJ. Formed in 2015 by vocalist, guitarist, and songwriter Edward Duarte and guitarist Sefa Ocak, the indie influenced outfit has begun to reach the ears of many people from surrounding towns. After meeting purely by chance, Ocak and Duarte exchanged phone numbers and made plans to record an EP. After months of laboriously watching tutorials on music production, four songs were recorded. Their debut album, “No Loitering,” was released in August 2016, and gained attention from many local teenagers and young adults. As of 2017, the line-up for Club 27 is Edward Duarte (lead vocals, guitar), Sefa Ocak (rhythm guitar), Tim Cintron (lead guitar, background vocals), Erick Ingram (bass guitar, background vocals), John Boracci (piano, keyboards, background vocals), and Larry Amons (drums, percussion).

CASTLE BLACK (New York, Alternative/ Post Punk)

Castle Black is a Brooklyn-based rock band, bringing a powerful and thunderous sound, full of hard-hitting jams, never sacrificing the hook.  Described as drawing from punk, post-punk, grunge, alternative and new wave, Castle Black defies the average rock genre.  Each song careens through an almost stream of consciousness depiction of life stories, social anthems and raw emotions.   With an intense live show, “impossible to tell what was coming next, except that it was bound to be loud and hard and intense – and catchy" (NY Music Daily), Castle Black is a “reminder of what dominating guitar riffs, melodic basslines, booming drums and a powerful singer with rock prowess can do.”  (Subversive Zine)

SPRINGBROOKE (Pennsylvania, Country/Rock)

Formed in early 2017, Springbrooke is a band based out of Bucks County, Pa. They provide an honest and blue collar style of music that Springbrooke dub as “Tried & True Music”. Led by the vocal styling of Ryan Williams, Springbrooke takes you on a journey with heartfelt lyrics, autobiographical stories and an edge that is in your face. Williams (Guitar, Mandolin & Harmonica) is joined by Matthew Amend (Bass), Jerry Galanti (Drums), Sean Clement (Guitar & Mandolin) and Chris Conner (Lap Steel & Guitar). Springbrooke is not bound by one genre of music. Whether it is Country, Blues, Rock or Top 40, Springbrooke transcends and adds their own spin to timeless classics and present hits. Springbrooke recently recorded their debut album, “Tried & True” in January 2018, available now!
