Cage Flight is an anarchist melodic hardcore band from the occupied Lenape land currently called Philadelphia. Members’ current and past projects include Ramshackle Glory, Wrong Planet, and Cottontail.
Their first release, a four song demo titled Noise Demo, combines fast, hardcore punk with thrash-influenced riffs and melodic vocals. The often bleak but sometimes hopeful lyricism reflects members’ experiences in anarchist and adjacent social movements, as well as resultant experiences with repression and incarceration.
The merging of melodic hardcore with an emphasis on radical politics is influenced by bands such as Propagandhi, 1905, and Strike Anywhere.
Cage Flight writes, “For all their faults, DIY punk spaces hold substantial liberatory potential in a number of ways - we hope to foster and expand that potential as best we can!” In that vein, one can expect to find free zines at a show. These materials are available for free download on the band’s website, where one can also find links to get more connected with ongoing resistance.
They'll be playing on April 15th at the Mothership at Great Weights' EP release show along with Tact and Ronnie Vega!
Stay tuned for an interview with Cage Flight and Stanky Hampster tomorrow!
